New construction project for a high profile location at Yonge St. and Queen St. E. in downtown Toronto. Demolition of two entrances; one exterior aluminum entrance and one interior tempered glass entrance. A new design for the exterior facade reconfigured a new aluminum entrance in a more convenient location and on the interior building lobby a new top hung stacking partition system opens up the café environment and creates a seating bar area along the lease line.
E1 was contracted to carry out the design modifications and help specify the interior glass doors door that would meet the landlord design requirements. The ‘INKAN 540 Series – Top Hung 90 Degree Staggered Stacking Slider’ was supplied and installed. It is comprised of five 12mm clear tempered glass doors panels with polished vertical edges. The 4” top and bottom aluminum rails were cladded in
XL Buff stainless steel to match base building and the slider being top hung allowed for the polished granite flooring to be carried through into the interior of the store without the interruption of a recessed bottom track. The ‘HSW Top Hung System’ with 2 hanger rollers per panel can carry a panel weight up to 330 lbs.
With the smooth operation of the rollers these panels can be conveniently stacked away in a concealed closet area. This feature to stack the sliding panel system left a large 17’ x 8’ opening that allowed customers to freely enter and exit the cafe. Not to mention a beautiful finished counter top at the bar end allowed for additional seating within the café directly along the lease line.
The exterior façade took a dramatic change. A new aluminum entrance was located closer to the north corner of the café. A complete demolition of the façade was carried out and a new aluminum entrance was built using Alumicor VersaWall – 2500 Series Curtain Wall Framing. The new entrance was waterproofed, sealed and insulated to complete the reconstruction. All the aluminum framing and wide stile door were powder coated to a custom colour match to the base building. To complete the new look all exterior caps and pressure plates were removed and replaced with a new black anodized cap and pressure plate.
